YES - she's already the Big 1!!!
Lia's first year has been incredible, remarkable, amazing, wonderful, life-changing and simply the best! As we now transition from parents of an infant to parents of a toddler, I can't help but always see her as the tiny sweet baby girl God blessed us with on August 31, 2011.
This has been the toughest update to get out and I don't think it's just because of the normal crazy, busy, tired stuff. I'm starting to think my lingering and procrastination is connected to my need to keep Lil' Lia, well - little. My baby.
One of my favorite, sweetest songs is Plumb's In My Arms Listen/Lyrics. It reminds me of how precious and tender our little girl is and how much all I want to do is protect and love her as best as I can.
Ok, so enough of the sappy stuff. To really get you caught up on how Lia is growing I'd need another 4 hours of blogging, so I'll do my best to keep it short and sweet.
Milestones & Memorable Moments include:
- Little baby steps (she thinks its funny to lunge herself toward you and then drop to the floor after taking 3 or 4 steps) or she'll try to walk so fast we joke she's going to run before she walks.
- Standing up on her own from a sitting position....so we know the real walking is not too far off.
- No more Binky; right around her 1st birthday she started ignoring or tossing out the Binky
- Lia started drinking real milk (yahoo!) right at her 1st birthday. She loves it so much she pretty much stopped letting us feed her (boo for us, more proof she's not a baby anymore).
- More teeth. She's currently sporting 4 on top and 3 on the bottom with others pushing their way in soon.
- With all those teeth, Lia is eating more real food. Regularly eats from our plates if we are out and starting to have more of our food at home too.
- More and more hair and getting curlier too!
- Sleeping pattern changes - before birthday she was sleeping through the night with no wake ups - but now she's become much more aware and has been waking up and not going back to sleep quite as easily. She's our little night owl - except that's not really a great thing- argh!
- Lia LOVES shoes! Any shoes - indoor, outdoor, Daddy's, Mommy's, her own - her favorite thing is to put them on her hands and crawl around with the shoes, or put them on her feet and try to stand in them! It's pretty amusing to watch her rummage through closets, the laundry room or the front entrance to get her hands on a pair of shoes! * Hmmm, wonder if this means she will be a shoe aficionado - guessing yes!
- Lia speak and Lia babble: all the time; now if we could just better understand the words she is uttering.
- Pointing her little finger at everyone and everything.
- Flirting - yep, she's figured this out. Actually, she probably figured it out a while ago - ha!
- 1st year doctor visit with 3 shots (but she did great!)
- 1st trip to the beach; which she enjoyed except for getting her hands and feet dirty - she's a dainty one.
- As far as personality, right now I'd say she continues to be fiery, feisty and rambunctious - which I hear just means she will grow to do great things! :) ... yet still well-balanced with her sweetness, sensitivity and playful/friendly demeanor.

Lia's birthday celebration was the perfect mix of family and friends. We are so fortunate to have both sets of grandparents local as well as all of her aunts, uncles, cousins and dear friends!
